Magnitude 4.6 quake jolts Davao City

DAVAO (Updated) -- A magnitude 4.6 earthquake rocked Davao City on Thursday morning, February 23, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) reported.

The tremor, which was tectonic in origin and with a depth of 15 kilometers, happened at 9:50 a.m. Thursday, the Phivolcs said, adding that Intensity 4 was felt in Davao City and Intensity 1 in Kidapawan City.

A woman was reportedly injured when a concrete waiting shed in front of Palma Gil Elementary School fell on her during the quake.

SunStar SuperBalita Davao posted on Facebook that an American national attended the injured woman while awaiting the paramedics team of the Central 911 to arrive in the scene.

Television reports said that another person was also injured.

As of this posting, authorities have cordoned the damaged waiting shed. (DDA/SunStar Philippines)
