A 27-YEAR-OLD man, who saved two boys from drowning, ended up drowning himself in Larawan Beach, Barangay Poblacion, Talisay City, on Wednesday, July 26.

Police recovered the body of Benjamin Purisima at the said beach around 8 a.m. on Thursday, July 27.

Investigation showed Purisima, a jeepney conductor, was enjoying the beach with his boss when he noticed John Cris Vabrebre, 10, and TJ Bonghanoy, 11, swimming at the deep portion of the coast around 1 p.m. on Wednesday.

Talisay City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office Chief Alvin Santillana said strong waves hit the beach that day.

Santillana said Purisima attempted to rescue the two boys after the strong waves tried to take them to deeper waters.

Purisima was able to save the boys but he was swept by the waves and was not seen for hours. (SunStar Cebu)
