Man dies, another hurt in shooting

A MAN was shot dead while another is still in critical condition after an unidentified man fired at them on Tuesday night.

The shooting occurred at Campos Store, Sitio San Isidro, Purok Tinago, Barangay 74-A, Matina Crossing, Davao City around 90 p.m. Tuesday.

The dead victim was identified as Enrique Santiago, 38, salesman of the Oliver Industrial Company and resident of St. Joseph the Worker, in Purok Tinago. The injured, on the other hand, was identified as Cristituto Marindoque, 35, a garbage collector of the City Environment and Natural Resources (Cenro).

SPO4 Policarpio Ballenas of the Talomo Police Station said the victims were having a drinking spree when a gunman shot them.

Santiago succumbed to a gunshot wound in the neck, while Marindoque was hit in the hands, cheek and back portion of the body. The two were brought to the Seventh Day Adventist Hospital in Bangkal where Santiago was declared dead.

Marindoque was later transferred to the Southern Philippines Medical Center (SPMC).

Eyewitnesses said the gunman fled onboard a motorcycle and sped off towards Diversion Road in Barangay Maa.

Police found an empty shell of a caliber .45 gun from the crime scene.

Authorities are still trying to establish the motive behind the shooting and the identity of a suspect. (AD)
