A FARM overseer was shot and stabbed to death inside his father-in-law's house at Purok Bukid Baye, Barangay Tabunan, Bago City, Negros Occidental last Tuesday, May 9.

Police identified the fatality as Harry Rivera, 36. Also injured in the incident was a female minor after she was hit by a stray bullet.

Chief Inspector Joeffer Cabural, city police chief, said the victim went to the house of his father-in-law, a few meters away from the house of suspect identified as Ariel Balgona, 42, who is also the victim’s relative.

A commotion happened when Balgona came to the house.

Neighbors heard three gunshots and then saw Rivera lying on the floor with gunshot wounds and a stab wound.

He was shot at close range based on the investigation.

An improvised 12-gauge shotgun loaded with ammunition was recovered a few meters from the victim’s body, but police cannot yet confirm who owns the firearm since Balgona fled.

The suspect's minor-daughter was hit by a stray bullet on her head while she was sleeping in their house. She was brought to Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital.

Police are eyeing grudge as the motive.
