Marcos in wait-and-see mode for 2016 polls

SENATOR Ferdinand Marcos Jr. still has no decision whether to seek higher office in 2016.

In a radio interview on Tuesday, Marcos said he will have to consider surveys on potential presidential candidates and political alliances before making a decision.

“Let’s wait (so) when the time comes, we will have enough time to prepare and perhaps, I will not fall behind whatever my decision is in 2016,” he said.

He added that he has to monitor political parties like the Liberal Party (LP) and Nacionalista Party (NP) which have stronger political machinery.

“You need the party machinery because you have to mobilize all sides of the country,” the NP senator said.

“Any candidate who will be supported by a main party (either LP or NP) will become a contender. That’s one of the things that I should monitor to know what would be the development in October (filing of certificate of candidacy)."

Marcos was floated as a potential running mate of Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte in next year's polls after he guested on the mayor's weekly program last Sunday.

The senator admitted discussing politics with Duterte but denied talking about a possible team-up for 2016. (Sunnex)
