Mayor denies mining in a barangay

LA TRINIDAD, Benguet – No mining activities are ongoing in Barangay Ambassador and no operation permits were given, said Tublay Mayor Rueben Paoad.

The mayor said the small-scale mining operations like that of Dennis Tan have already ceased.

Dennis Tan used to mine on a lot located at Kilometer 21 in Barangay Ambassador with an area of 13.47 hectares. Residents of the barangay said the operations are looking for copper reserves.

Several protests have been made by concerned citizens last year and those were acknowledged by the mayor. The local council likewise issued a resolution opposing small scale mining activities in the area.

If mining operations continue in the area, a waterline will be affected that will compromise the supply of the community.
