Media group holds humans rights gab

CLARK FREEPORT -- The Center for Media Freedom and Responsibility (CMFR) held a "Human Rights Reporting" seminar for some 20 journalists and media practitioners from North Luzon at the Holiday Inn Hotel Resort in this Freeport.

The two-day live in seminar, which started Friday and ended Saturday, tackled various aspects on human rights reporting, including the role of the media in upholding and "articulating" to the public issues on human rights abuse and violation.

The seminar was organized by CMFR with the support of the US Agency for International Development (USAid) through the Asia Foundation.

According to CMFR Executive Director Melinda Quintos de Jesus, the certificate-based seminar aimed to enhance the understanding of journalists, reporters and other media practitioners of their understanding of humans’ rights and laws.

De Jesus carefully defined and described the concept of press freedom and free expression during the seminar.

Also on hand during the forum were Miriam Coronel Ferrer of Sulong CARHRIHL who discussed reporting human rights on wars, and Sophia Flor Perez Garduce who talked on reporting of women and children's human rights. (JTD)
