Minors rescued in Buguias anew

LA TRINIDAD, Benguet — Authorities once again rescued minors in a bar along Abatan in Bugiuas town.

In a report, police personnel of Buguias, Benguet and the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) rescued five minors working in two bars along Abatan, Buiguias.

The minors were working in Sagadanian's Place Liquor and Videoke Bar managed by Debra Limmayog and at Lyn's Videoke Bar managed by Chrislyn Maddawat March 12.

Police information chief Cherry Manabat Fajardo said a continuous monitoring of the Buguias area is implemented since the series of rescue's of minors in the locality.

The police is working under two campaigns of the PNP dubbed Oplan "Sagip Angel," against Child Abuse, Maltreatment and exploitation, and Oplan "Nena," against Prostitution, Vagrancy and Indecent Shows.

The police are part of the program of the DSWD to keep minors of the nighttime establishments and prevent human trafficking activities.

Nightspots are abloom in the town owing it to being a commercial center in Northern Benguet for vegetable traders and mining in nearby Mankayan town.

Last year, 17 bar girls, mostly minors, were rescued from girlie bars in the same town led by the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG-North Central Cordillera).

Police with DSWD and CIDG officials were informed about the minors working in various bars as bar girls, the youngest rescued was aged 14 while the oldest was 21.

Fajardo said the operation last week was a police operation and stressed the area is part of the monitoring of the local and regional police.
