BIG cash prizes will be up for grabs in the finale of the two-division Misamis Oriental Chess Cup 2010.

This time, aspiring kiddies in age bracket 14 years old and below will be pitting wits on Sept. 4-5 at the Vicente de Lara Capitol Park of Cagayan de Oro.

"Instead sa original sked nga Sept. 9-10, we agreed to hold the kiddies event early in the first weekend of September para dili ma-conflict sa ilang klase," revealed National Master Roly Tan.

With the lucky champion out to receive P6,000 cash plus trophy, arbiter Doming Oga said a huge turnout of participants from schools and out-of-school youth can be expected.

"Like in the just-concluded Open category, our kiddies tourney will be an all-weather competition kay naka-ready na atong mga tents ug trapal in case mo-ulan," Oga said.

Meanwhile, Capitol Chess Club president Memen Moreno is also contemplating to organize a "Dama (Brazilian-type checkered) tournament" after learning that the Mindanao island is teeming with good dama players.

"Daghan maayong laki nga mga damador sa Mindanao. So, kong klaro na atong P15,000 nga premyo for the champion ato kining himoon nga pormal ang pag-anunsiyo," Moreno told Sun.Star Cagayan de Oro. (LLS)
