Moderate quake jolts north Luzon

EARTHQUAKES rocking northern Luzon are becoming more frequent, as after minor tremors last week, another earthquake jolted northern Luzon Thursday evening.

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said the earthquake occurred around 6:59 p.m. Thursday. Its epicenter is located 27 kilometers southwest of San Fernando, La Union.

The earthquake has a 2.1 magnitude.

It also is one of a series of tremors reported by the Phivolcs on that day.

One occurred 65 kilometers southwest of Maasin, Southern Leyte around 5:29 p.m. of the same day. The Phivolcs reported that it was 4.0 magnitude quake.

At 8.30 p.m., a 4.5 magnitude earthquake also hit Mamburao in Occidental Mindoro. (Rimaliza Opiña)
