DAVAO City and the rest of Mindanao will soon be accessible to more international flights.

On Tuesday’s regular session of the 18th City Council, Councilor Al-Ryan Alejandre revealed the Department of Transportation (DOTr) Secretary Arthur Tugade vowed to open more international airlines to Davao airport.

“I was very glad that the DOTr answered our request in a fast manner," he said.

On July 12 this year, Alejandre passed a resolution requesting for additional local and international flights in Davao airport to the DOTr and the Department of Tourism.

City Council are making the most out of the attention that Davao is receiving since former Mayor Rodrigo Duterte was elected as President in the country.

Tugade, together with the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (Caap), met with Alejandre, Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio, and Councilor Bernard Al-ag to discuss the matter.

The officials decided that government offices and regional development bodies should work on tourism and transportation needs as well as gaps.

DOTr also said they were actually gearing up for a nationwide improvement of airways. The agency will promote the Philippines as a multi-gateway destination in Asia as well as improve major connectivity tourist source markets in the country.

The department will focus on the development and improvement of Ninoy Aquino International Airport, Mactan-Cebu, Clark, Kalibo, Ilo-ilo, Davao and Puerto Princesa.
