MOUNT Mandalagan trekkers should secure permits from the City Environment and Natural Resources Office and other offices, according to the head of Talisay City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (CDRRMO).

CDRRMO Head Geoffrey Gutierrez said it is important for trekkers to comply with the permits so that authorities can also be informed about their activities.

He added that trekkers should also bring with them a member of Bantay Bukid to guide them on the trail.

The number of tour guides will depend on the number of trekkers, Gutierrez said.

This Holy Week, trekkers are allowed, but they must follow safety measures and should have strict compliance of the rules, Gutierrez said.

He added that personnel are assigned in certain areas to respond to emergency cases.

Gutierrez said trekking is fun if mountaineers follow the instructions of the tour guide for their safety and convenience.

For camping purposes, he advised trekkers to bring necessary things and to also observe proper and safety guidelines.

Two weeks ago, a young male trekker was rescued after he got lost and fell near a waterfall at Barangay Patag, Silay City. He sustained minor bruises.

In August 2016, 25 female trekkers who went to Tinagong Dagat were rescued by volunteers in Barangay Cabatangan, Talisay City after they were stranded when one of their climbers got injured.
