‘Negligence’ is among the causes of fire

John Dave N. Casas

A BUREAU of Fire Protection (BFP) official said negligence of house owners is one of the reasons of the series of fire incidents that hit Zamboanga City in the past two months.

Chief Inspector Jaime Ramirez, head of Zamboanga City Fire District (ZCFD), urged residents of the city on Wednesday to be vigilant especially during brownouts when most of them rely on candles as the source of light.

Ramirez said six of the city’s 16 fire incidents that took place from January to February were due to unattended lighted candles.

He said one of the houses that were burned due to unattended lighted candle was owned by a city councilor. The rest of the fire incidents were due to faulty electrical wirings.

Ramirez, in line with the observance of fire prevention month, urged the residents to observe safety procedures to prevent the occurrence of fire incident.

He urged the residents to make every day of the year a fire prevention day not only this month of March.

Meanwhile, the City Government has turned over two new fire trucks to the ZCFD to boost its fire fighting capability.

The fire trucks were turned over to the ZCFD last Monday by Mayor Celso Lobregat during the opening of the fire prevention month observance.
