Negros Occidental village councilman shot

A VILLAGE councilman in Don Salvador Benedicto, Negros Occidental, was seriously injured after he was shot by two unidentified men on a motorcycle at Purok Luhod-Luhod, Barangay Mandalagan in Bacolod City Friday night, February 17.

Police identified the victim as Lorenzo Purisima, 47, of Purok Culasi, Barangay Kumaliskis.

Senior Inspector Larry Teovisio, head of Police Station 3, said Purisima was sitting in front of his stall when a man fired at him in a close range around 7:40 p.m. and fled.

Purisima was rushed to a hospital, where he is recuperating from a surgery.

Police recovered five spent bullets and a slug of .45 caliber pistol.

Teovisio said Purisima received death threats three years ago, based on the statement of his family.

Police have yet to identify the assailants and establish the motive.

In Negros Oriental, meanwhile, a man was shot to death by two unidentified men on a motorcycle at Bernadas Compound, Purok 1 in Barangay Bolocboloc, Sibulan town last February 16.

Police records showed that Jeofrey Teves Amiscaray, 46, of San Jose town, was having a drinking session with his friends when the assailants fired at him.

He succumbed to multiple gunshot wounds.
