PRESIDENT Benigno Aquino III appointed former Tagaytay mayor Francis Tolentino as head of the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA).

A simple turnover ceremony will be conducted today, Tuesday, at the MMDA office grounds in Makati City.

Tolentino’s assumption quelled rumors that he has turned down the offer of Aquino as new MMDA chief.

Prior to his appointment to the post, Tolentino served as mayor of Tagaytay City for nine years, from 1994 to 2004.

He was succeeded by his younger brother, incumbent Mayor Abraham Tolentino.

As mayor, Tolentino is credited for having developed Tagaytay City into a tourism and investment destination. (AH/Sunnex)
