A RANKING member of the New People’ Army (NPA) surrendered and turned over a machinegun to military forces in the hinterlands of Davao del Norte, an official said Tuesday.

Lieutenant Colonel Roberto Bunagan, commander of the Army’s 60th Infantry Battalion, identified the NPA member as as Alberto Egagamao, a political instructor who is responsible for the indoctrination and training of NPA recruits.

Bunagan said Egagamao surrendered to his personnel around 6 p.m. Saturday in the village of Cabadiangan, New Corella, Davao del Norte. The rebel then turned over an M-60 machinegun with ammunition.

Bunagan said Egagamao decided to surrender as he wants to live in peace together with his family. (Bong Garcia)
