MALACAÑANG condoled Friday with the victims of the massive fire that engulfed a residential high-rise building in west London on Wednesday that left at least 12 people dead.

"We condole with those who have lost families and friends in the Grenfell fire and we take special note on the special needs of Filipinos who were also affected by the conflagration," Presidential Spokesperson Ernesto Abella said Thursday in a televised press conference.

The London Fire Brigade reportedly received the first reports of the fire at 12:54 a.m. (London time).

Reports said at least 12 people were killed while dozens more have sustained injuries when the blaze tore through the 24-storey Grenfell Tower.

The Philippine Embassy in London confirmed Wednesday that Filipinos are among those injured and affected by the massive fire at Grenfell Tower.

The embassy said a number of Filipinos are in the emergency shelters at St. Clement's Church, St. Francis of Assisi Church, and the Portobelio Rugby Club on Walmer.

Abella assured that the Philippine government would provide assistance to all Filipino fire victims.

"The embassy is closely monitoring the situation and is ready to provide assistance all Filipino fire victims," he said. (SunStar Philippines)
