PBL, Liga Pilipinas merger talks still on

THE talks of a merger between the Philippine Basketball League and the fledgling Liga Pilipinas are still alive.

The proposal, which is heavily supported by the Philippine Basketball Association, has gained ground with the willingness of both leagues to unite.

“The talks are in progress. And we are looking to complete the agreement by April,” said M. Lhuillier Kwarta Padala-Cebu head coach Raul Alcoseba.

Alcoseba is among the personalities sent by Liga Pilipinas to the negotiation table.

According to Alcoseba, the PBL will hold open its tournament on Feb. 16 and is expected to finish in six weeks.

“After their (PBL) tournament, then the merger will take place. Liga Pilipinas will also start our own tournament by March,” said Alcoseba.

The PBL will open the PG Flex-UK Derm Open Conference this Tuesday with eight teams--Ascof Lagundi, Pharex B Complex, Cobra Energy Drink, Cossack Vodka, Addmix, Agri Nurture, Fern-C and Excel Roof.
