MANILA -- The Philippine National Police (PNP) said they are questioning a taxi driver who may be able to provide details on the suspect in the Resorts World Manila attack that killed 37 people.
Metropolitan Manila Police Chief Oscar Alabayade on Saturday, June 3, said the driver took the suspect to the casino.
Alabayade said the focus of the investigation now is figuring out the identity and background of the suspect, who burned himself to death.
The PNP has yet to identify the nationality of the gunman, as he had no identification card, but PNP Chief Ronald dela Rosa described him as "English speaking." He also described him as white, with a mustache and about six-foot tall.
Dela Rosa said the suspect wrapped his body in a blanket and burned himself to death at the hotel's room 510.
Before he committed suicide, the gunman shot TV screens and set on fire gambling tables by pouring gasoline on them. He stuffed a backpack with casino chips valued at P113 million, the PNP chief said.
The Islamic State group claimed responsibility for the attack, but PNP said they believed it had been a robbery gone wrong.
The management of Resorts World Manila released Friday afternoon the names of the persons who died in the incident.
The bodies of the victims were brought to Veronica Funeral Homes and Rizal Funeral Parlor, both in Pasay City. (AP)
