FIFTEEN people, including two policemen, were arrested in the gun ban imposed by the Commission on Elections (Comelec) in preparation for the May elections.

Cagayan de Oro City police chief Benedicto Lopez said the arrested policemen belong to the Cagayan de Oro Police Office.

Lopez said the two policemen remains in police custody at the Maharlika Detention Center after they failed to post bail. The bail for the gun ban violation ranges between P17,000 and P12,000.

He said criminal complaints have already been filed against the policemen at the Cagayan de Oro City Prosecutor’s Office, while the administrative charges have been filed at the Regional Internal Affairs Service (RIAS) in Camp Alagar.

Lopez said the confiscated firearms include caliber .45, 38, 9mm and.22 pistols and 12-gauge homemade shotgun.

The police chief said the Omnibus Election Code imposes a penalty of one to six years imprisonment without probation, disqualification from holding public office or right to suffrage, and deportation for foreigners if found guilty of the offense.

r“We want to show the public that we mean business in the implementation of the law,” Lopez said.
