Police to help with evacuation

CEBU Provincial Police Office Director Eric Noble ordered lower units not to stop monitoring rivers, coastlines, mountain villages and flood-prone areas due to the rains brought by the low-pressure area, formerly tropical depression Auring.

The official instructed his personnel to help local government units evacuate residents from neighborhoods threatened by floods and landslides.

Flood struck 10 barangays and killed 15-year-old Hannah Via Villaflores in Toledo City last Monday.

Two houses in the city were also destroyed by landslide, but no one was hurt.

The Toledo City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (CDRRMO) monitored flooding in Barangays Landahan, Ibo, Capitan Claudio, Carmen, Dumlog, Magdugo, Matab-ang, Cambang-ug and Canlumampao.

The Mines and Geosciences Bureau 7 also listed Barangays Awihao, Cantabaco, Luray 2, Poog, Don Andres Soriano (Lutopan) as susceptible to flooding.

Toledo City CDRRMO Officer Alexander Abella said they evacuated more than 70 families last Monday.

Abella blamed the flood on the illegal extraction of sand and gravel n the city’s rivers.
