PORAC -- The Municipal Government of Porac will be implementing a town-wide vaccination of community dogs in bid to prevent the spread of rabies infection here.

The schedule of anti-rabies vaccination among dogs and cats, ages three months and above, will be held this February, according to the Municipal Agricultural Services Office (MASO).

The Municipal Government of Porac is asking pet owners to be responsible and have their pets vaccinated.

The program is part of the regular initiative to keep pets rabies-free as anti-rabies vaccine is good for six months to one year only. The anti-rabies campaign also aims to educate the public on the proper measures to do when bitten by a dog, especially if it is known to have rabies.

Establishing herd immunity through vaccination is very important since dog bite cases are observed to increase. If dog vaccination remains low, the risk of rabies infection is high.

The first areas to receive vaccination include Baranagys Planas, Balubad and Salu (today); Pio and Model Community (February 6); Jalung and Mancatian (February 7); and Hacienda Dolores (February 8).

MASO personnel will also be implementing vaccines for Hemorrhagic Septicemia and Pneumonic Pasteurellosis among carabaos and cattle, simultaneously.
