A PREGNANT woman and her toddler son drowned along the shoreline of Purok Malipayon, Barangay 35 in Bacolod City Saturday morning, April 15.

Executive assistant Jomarie Vargas, cluster head for City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO), identified the fatalities as Roselyn de la Cruz, 21, and John Carl de la Cruz, 2.

Vargas said the body of De la Cruz, who was five months pregnant, was recovered around 5:15 p.m. by personnel of CDRRMO and Philippine Coast Guard-Bacolod.

Hours earlier, her son was rescued but was declared dead at a hospital.

Vargas said they are still conducting investigation.

Neighbors said De la Cruz’s husband was with her and their son when they went to the shoreline planning to take a swim.

Her husband went to collect seashells while she waded through the waters with her son.

Minutes later, they were swept by strong waves into the sea. De la Cruz’s husband was unharmed.
