PSC technical team arrives in Davao

THE Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) inspection team was tasked Wednesday, July 27, to check the ongoing construction of sports facilities in Davao City and the Davao del Norte Sports Tourism Sports Complex in Tagum City for the possible hosting of the 2019 Southeast Asian (SEA) Games.

PSC Commissioners Charles Raymond Maxey and Arnold Agustin were joined by Architect Noel Elnar, head of the engineering and maintenance unit, Engineer Eduardo Clariza and Alona Doromal Quintos arrived together on Wednesday afternoon.

PSC acting executive Director Ronel Abrenica, according to Maxey, was taking a five p.m. flight to Davao from Manila.

Abrenica, in a recent text message, said the team will stay until Saturday.

“We will check possible venues and other facilities in Davao and Tagum cities,” Abrenica said.

PSC Chairman William “Butch” Ramirez earlier told SunStar Davao that the Philippine Olympic Committee wanted to hold the biennial Games in Davao City, thus, the need to assess the city’s feasibility of hosting it.

He considered the 10-hectare University of Mindanao (UM) Sports Complex and 20-hectare city sports complex at the University of the Philippines-Mindanao in Mintal is still under construction as well as the 70,000-seater King Dome is being built by Jesus Christ the Name Above Every Name of Pastor Apollo Quiboloy.
