A 37-YEAR-OLD public school teacher died in a vehicular accident at 5:40 p.m. Friday, March 23, in Barangay Malhiao, Badian town, Cebu.

Police identified the fatality as Maria Elena Belarmino Guevarra, who succumbed to injuries in the head and other parts of her body.

Guevarra was the passenger of the motorcycle driven by her common-law husband Leonardo Caballero Carteciano Jr., 44.

Investigation showed that Carteciano stopped his motorcycle in front of his house.

A truck traveling on the northbound lane hit the rear of the motorcycle.

Carteciano, who was also injured, and Guevarra were rushed to Badian District Hospital.

Carteciano survived, but Guevarra did not make it alive.

The truck driver, Gerry Talara Pacomios, was arrested after the incident.

He told the police that he failed to control the truck after the brakes malfunctioned. He will face charges of reckless driving that resulted in homicide and physical injury if he cannot reach a settlement with Guevarra's family. (KAL/SunStar Cebu)
