THE country's No. 1 table tennis player Richard Gonzales of Cebu and Davao City's very own class A player Michael Dalumpines are two of the featured participants of the Mayor Rody and Inday Sara Duterte 73rd Araw ng Dabaw Sports Festival Table Tennis Tournament set on March 20 and 21 at the Wheels N' More Badminton Center along J.P. Laurel Avenue.

Odie Gajitos of the Metro Davao Table Tennis Association said Thursday the two-day event will feature the men's team, women's singles, boys 14-under and girls 14-under categories.

Gajitos said the men's team must be composed of three players. The team champion will receive P4,000 while the runner-up will get P3,000 and the third placer will go home with P2,000.

The women's singles champion, meanwhile, will pocket P3,000 while the next two placers will settle for P2,000 and P1,000. The first three players of the boys and girls events will claim P1,500, P1,000, and P750.

Gajitos, who is also coach of the Ateneo de Davao University men's and women's table tennis varsity teams, said some 200 players are expected to see action in the annual event co-presented by Davao City Mayor Rodrigo and Vice Mayor Sara Duterte in coordination with the Sports Development Division of the City Mayor's Office.

Tournament manager is Vic Calanas. Medatta, which is headed by Dr. Louie Metran, is sanctioning the competition. (MLSA)
