San Fernando PESO prioritizes locals over overseas employment

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO -- The Public Employment Service Office (Peso) of San Fernando is prioritizing the hiring of Fernandinos for local employment within the city rather than for overseas placements.

PESO manager Donny Sayre said they are protecting the welfare of Kapampangan applicants from illegal recruitment as unaccredited placement and employers manage to "sneak in" in legitimate job fairs.

"Kung maaari sana dito sa mga nagnenegosyo o employers na nag-locate dito sa atin sa San Fernando natin sila ilalagay. Pero kung naman meron tayon gmga Fernandinos na ang qualifications niya ay sa ibang lugar, nire-refer pa rin natin sila doon. But our primary objective is local employment rto protect our qualified applicants from being victimized by illegal and unscrupulous placement agencies" said Sayre.

These applicants, he said, are referred to the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration or POEA for the appropriate processing and documentation.

"We are discouraging companies to hold special recruitment activities because the city government wants to ensure the safety of all Fernandinos," added Sayre.

As of May 2014 he said, 1,763 applications have been processed by the PESO and are currently being matched with jobs offered by local employers here.

The PESO will conduct another job fair at Walter Mart which will be participated by different companies located in the city this coming June 20.
