MANILA -- The Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) submitted on Tuesday its 35-page report on the Mamasapano incident to the Senate committee on local government chaired by Senator Ferdinand Marcos Jr.

MILF peace panel chair Mohagher Iqbal said the copy of the full report was given in response to Marcos’ request.

“We trust that this report is treated with fairness and we hope that all information provided therein will be helpful in your evaluation of the incident,” Iqbal said in a letter dated March 23.

The MILF conducted its own investigation on the Mamasapano clash but initially decided to submit its report to the International Monitoring Team, which monitors the ceasefire between the Philippine government and the rebel group.

The law enforcement operation aimed at arresting bomb makers Zulkifli bin Hir, alias Marwan, and Abdul Basit Usman, resulted in a bloody clash between the elite policemen and the Moro rebels.

The failed operation claimed the lives of Marwan, 44 SAF commandos, 18 Moro rebels, and five civilians.

The BBL hearing in the Senate will resume on April 13 after it was suspended following the clash. (Sunnex)
