ASIDE from various investment projects, the City of Silay is also banking on further developing its tourism sector to boost the local economy.

Mayor Mark Andrew Arthur Golez said that on top of culture and arts, the city government is also developing its other tourism offerings like seafood and agriculture-based products.

Golez cited Barangay Balaring dubbed as Silay’s Seafood Capital as one emerging seafood destination catering to an increasing number of tourists, especially domestic.

“Aside from our heritage houses and structures, we are also strengthening our promotion of food tourism, especially seafood which Silay has huge potential,” he added.

Currently, there are at least seven seafood restaurants operating along the coastline of Barangay Balaring.

The mayor said they are planning to increase these establishments, along with the construction of additional facilities like boardwalk.

Golez said the area is already well-lighted complemented by better road accessibility thus, more people are also visiting the area at night.

“Tourists are delighted by the rich culture of the city while they enjoy its delicious delicacies,” the mayor said.

In terms of agri-tourism, Golez said the city has also worked for the improvement of roads leading to Barangay Patag.

The upland barangay has been attracting tourists through its mountain resorts and fresh organic food offerings.

“Tourism, aside from generating jobs for the people, will put Silay on the map as one of the sites to visit in the country,” Golez added.
