SM's E-waste program gets support

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO – The City Environment and Natural Resources Office (Cenro) of San Fernando is fully supporting the E-Waste collection program of SM Supermalls.

The E-Waste program collects electronic materials that are no longer used by the community. The materials will then be surrendered to their partner companies for recycling, instead of being disposed improperly.

Electronic waste materials contain different toxic chemicals that can harm the environment and humans.

According to Cenro’s Regina Rodriguez, the city government of San Fernando supports SM Supermalls’s program because it promotes environmental protection.

“Itong proyektong ito, sinusuportahan natin dahil may paki sila sa kalikasan. Sinusuportahan din namin yung dati na nilang ginagawa na naga-accept sila ng mga recyclable materials tapos in exchange for cash, dadalhin mo yung trash mo doon,” said Rodriguez, referring to the mall’s “Trash to Cash” program.

Rodriguez added that old computers and other appliances are not accepted by local junk shops, while SM Malls turn over such waste materials to their accredited junk shops.
