THE alleged New People’s Army (NPA) member tagged in the murder of Philippine Air Force (PAF) Staff Sergeant Mark Herbert Oberes had reportedly participated in the ambush-slay of six police officers in Guihulngan City, Negros Oriental last year.

Supt. Reyman Tolentin, in an interview, said that the Police Regional Office (PRO) 7 investigators have started to look into the report of Tomas Isugan’s involvement in the incident.

Tolentin, PRO 7 information officer, said they are also checking the profile of Edna Cabañog, who is also reportedly an NPA member.

He said Isugan, who was allegedly hired by Cabañog to kill Oberes, had been confirmed as an NPA member.

Isugan, when he was still 17, was charged with murder in 2013.

Isugan, Cabañog and two unidentified men escaped after allegedly killing Oberes in Talisay City last Wednesday night.

The PAF officer’s remains were burned with his car in Carcar City on the same night.

Tolentin said the Special Action Force and Armed Forces of the Philippines personnel have joined in the manhunt against the suspects, who reportedly fled to Guihulngan City.

Cabañog’s daughter Resamie admitted she had a relationship with Oberes.

Resamie and her new boyfriend Joshua Garciano were named respondents in a murder case by the Talisay City Police last Friday.

Cabañog, Isugan and the others were included in the complaint filed before the Talisay City Prosecutor’s Office.

Money is being explored as one of the motives behind the killing of Oberes.

Oberes’ family, in an earlier press conference, said that Resamie and her mother borrowed money from him so they could finance their eatery business near an ongoing construction of a mall in Barangay Tabunok, Talisay City last August. (KAL)
