Suspected NPA rebels kills rape suspect

John Paul Villanueva

A LABORER who has an arrest warrant for rape was shot to death by suspected New People’s Army (NPA) rebels at Sitio Patlangka, Barangay Magballo in Kabankalan City, Negros Occidental on Wednesday.

Killed was George Garingo, 43, of Sitio Pitigo, Barangay San Jose, Bayawan City, Negros Oriental and temporarily residing in Barangay Magballo, Kabankalan City.

Superintendent Rhea Santos, city police chief, said Garingo and his three unidentified companions went to the house of his uncle and borrowed a pot.

When they left, and were just about five meters away from the house, the three assailants fired at Garingo using unknown firearms and introduced themselves as NPA while escaping.

Garingo succumbed to four gunshot wounds in his back.

Santos said Garingo’s family believe the rebels killed their kin for evading an arrest warrant for rape in Negros Oriental.

In 2014, suspected rebels had warned him for being a troublemaker.

Police have no lead yet on the identities and whereabouts of the assailants.
