A TURNOVER of a fire truck was held Sunday between the Bureau of Fire Protection headed by Western Visayas Regional Fire Marshall Maria Sofia Mendoza and 3rd District Congressman Jose Carlos "Kako" Lacson in front of the Talisay City Fire Station.

The unit will augment the city’s existing two fire trucks which Lacson said is an urgent need for the safety of the people of Talisay.

Lacson noted that one of the units needs repair which he said he offered the city government of his assistance, but was refused by the latter.

A last termer and a mayoralty candidate, Lacson said the release of the fire truck was made after he followed up his request to Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Ronaldo Puno at a party meeting of the Lakas-Kampi-CMD in Manila recently.

The fire truck has the capacity of 4,000 litter or 1,000 gallons of water that could fight fire in about five to seven minutes, according to Mendoza.

From October 2009 up to this time, Western Visayas received the bulk of new fire trucks.

Recently, the cities of Himamaylan, Bacolod, Kabankalan, Victorias and San Enrique town also received the fire trucks from the DILG.

Lacson through his Priority Development Assistance Fund (PDAF) also donated P1 million worth of fire garments to the city’s Fire Station and other fire stations in the district.
