CEBU City Mayor Tomas Osmeña is reviving the Task Force Alpha as part of his program to improve enforcement of the traffic rules and regulations.

Osmeña said that the group will be tasked to assist the personnel of the Cebu City Transportation Office (CCTO) during peak hours.

“Private cars, public vehicles, they are not afraid to enforce the law to anyone. They will be back on the streets soon,” said the mayor, on his official Facebook page.

The Task Force Alpha had operated in the city during Osmeña’s previous term.

The group, he said, will be composed of doctors, lawyers and other professionals who want to help the City.

The members of the task force are only volunteers, hence, they will not be considered employees of the City Government nor will they be paid for the services they will render.

During Osmeña’s previous administration, the task force does not only apprehend drivers but also helped educate motorists on traffic rules as well as on public’s safety on roads.

Osmeña already designated a personnel for the recruitment of volunteers.

There is no target date yet on when the task force will start operating with CCTO.

Lawyer Rafael Yap, CCTO chief, said that he doesn’t know yet how many members that will compose the task force.

The volunteers, Yap said, can start soon after they are given deputization.

Osmeña vowed to prioritize solving the city’s traffic problem, among others, in his administration.

The mayor would have initially wanted to focus on the fight against illegal drugs and criminality but changed his mind after the Camp Crame implemented a revamp in Cebu that led to the transfer of Senior Supt. Benjamin Santos from the Cebu City Police Office.
