LA TRINIDAD, Benguet – It is already the second decade of the millennium but some places here still has no electricity.

The local board is requesting the Department of Energy and the Benguet Electric Cooperative to make electricity available in 21 sitios in Barangay’s Loacan, Tinongdan, Ampucao and Dalupirip.

The local resolution backed by the entire council said “electricity is one of the most important basic necessities in our daily living.”

“There are far flung sitios in this municipality which are not energized despite the declaration that all sitios in this municipality are energized,” the resolution stated.

The resolution has been passed and forwarded to Energy Secretary Jose Rene Almendras.

In 2008, Beneco received a P14.6 million subsidy from the National Electrification Administration, which bankrolled the electrification of sitios Takadang and Badew, both in Kibungan town.

Beneco has energized 98 percent of the province in line with the total electrification goals under the Rural Electrification Program. (Maria Elena Catajan)
