Tropical depression spotted off Catanduanes (7:55 a.m.)

MANILA -- Weather forecasters continue to monitor a tropical depression that was spotted at 4 a.m. Monday off Catanduanes.

Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said the tropical depression named "Basyang" was estimated to be at 660 kilometers east northeast of Virac, Catanduanes.

The temperature, Pagasa said, will still range from 25-33 degrees centigrade.

Southern Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao will experience mostly cloudy skies with scattered rainshowers and thunderstorms, and the rest of the country will be partly cloudy to cloudy with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms mostly in the afternoon or evening.

Light to moderate winds blowing from the southeast will prevail over Luzon and coming from the east to southeast over the rest of the country. The coastal waters throughout the archipelago will be slight to moderate, the weather bureau said. (Sunnex)
