JUST hours before the year 2009 came to a close, a 38-year-old resident of Hacienda Baling in Barangay Blumentritt, Murcia died after he was sideswiped by a speeding cargo truck Thursday evening.
Murcia police chief Inspector Simeon Gane said the victim, Leo David, succumbed to head and body injuries when he was sideswiped by the truck driven by Benedicto Ellecion, 54, of Barangay Cansilayan, Murcia.
Gane said David was walking along the road in Barangay Blumentritt when the fatal accident happened.
Ellecion was reported to be under the influence of intoxicating liquor at the time of the incident, according to witness Erick Lasanas.
Ellecion is presently detained at the Murcia Police Station pending the filing of criminal charges against him in court for David's death. (GMD)
