UC prexy leads ID celebration

THE City Government will be celebrating a simple yet meaningful Philippine Independence Day today.

Mayor Mauricio Domogan and city department heads finalized the Independence Day celebration activities during Monday’s executive-legislative meeting focusing more on the solemnity of the activity as a triumph of Filipino soldiers against the Spanish forces 115 years ago.

Domogan said they invited University of the Cordilleras’ president Dr. Ricardo Pama as this year’s guest speaker with the theme “Kalayaan 2013: Ambagan Tungo sa Malawakang Kaunlaran.”

The mayor tasked the City Tourism Office to coordinate the participants in the program expected to be attended by government employees, students, and the private sector.

The city’s celebration will start with a program at the Baguio Convention Center at 8 a.m. will be starting with an interfaith prayer by various religious groups and churches in the city.

Entertainment will be provided by the University of the Cordilleras’ Orchestra and Center for Creative Productions.

At around 10 a.m. after the program, a parade that will be participated by City Government employees, barangays, retirees and veterans, schools and various groups will start at the Baguio Convention and will culminate at the Melvin Jones grandstand.

Meanwhile, the Department of Labor and Employment will spearhead the conduct of an Independence Day jobs Fair at the University of the Cordilleras Amphitheater.

The Alay sa Kalinisan, meanwhile, has organized a tree planting activity in the city as part of the annual tree planting season in city watersheds and in places designated by the City Environment and Parks Management Office.
