Victims of firecracker explosion rise to 45

THE number of firecracker explosion victims have rose to 45 as six more people were brought to the hospital for medication, a hospital official said Saturday.

Doctor Jejunee Rivera, information officer of the government-owned Zamboanga City Medical Center (ZCMC), said the six were brought to ZCMC after sunrise Friday.

The ZCMC records showed that there were 39 victims of firecracker explosions as of 4 a.m. Friday while there were four stray bullet victims.

Rivera said the other six victims have only suffered minor injuries.

One of the 45 victims has undergone amputation surgery due to severe hand injuries.

Rivera said the number of stray bullet victims remain at four citing there were no more patients of such incident was admitted at ZCMC.

The ZCMC’s monitoring of firecracker explosions victims would continue, Rivera said.

The monitoring by the ZCMC started last December 24.

Rivera said most of the victims were injured by “Piccolo” and “Triangle” firecrackers.
