Village officials told to remit withholding tax

Sunnexdesk

A TOP official of the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) has advised the village officials to remit the withholding to the BIR.

Revenue District Officer Cresencio Agad made the call, citing 50 percent of Zamboanga City's 98 villages did not remit their withholding tax of the previous year.

Agad warned the village officials that they may face charges if they fail to remit the withholding tax to the BIR.

Agad said one of the reasons they failed to remit the withholding tax to the BIR is they are just newly-elected and do not know about the withholding tax.

The withholding tax is 10 percent of revenue earnings of a particular village.

Agad said the funds derived from the withholding tax cannot be used to spend in implementing projects because that is tantamount to malversation. (Bong Garcia)
