John Dave N. Casas

THE Zamboanga City Filipino-Chinese Chamber of Commerce has donated relief goods for the flood-stricken farmers from the villages of Sinunuc to Labuan in Zamboanga City’s west coast.

City Agriculturist Diosdado Palacat said the donation forms part of the assistance given the City Government to the farmers affected by the recent flash flood that hit several areas in the city.

Palacat said that the next batch of recipients of relief assistance are the affected farmers from the city’s east coast villages.

It will be recalled that the intermittent rains that pounded Zamboanga City from October 16 to 22, inundated a total of 2,651.24 hectares of rice and corn fields including vegetable farms as well as fishponds and seaweed farms spread out in 23 villages.

The total value of damage to crops and fisheries amounted to P155.604 million with 2,499 farmers affected, according to Dr. Palacat.
