Zamboanga City Gov’t temporarily closes bypass road

John Dave N. Casas

THE use of the uncompleted bypass road connecting the villages of Culianan and Pasobolong in Zamboanga City has been temporarily prohibited effective Wednesday, November 9, due to cracks and erosion of the bridge approach.

The bypass road connecting Culianan and Pasobolong forms part of the 35.49 kilometer project that links the village of Culianan in the east to the village of Patalon in the west of Zamboanaga City.

The entire project is ongoing but the said portion is already being utilized by motorists as an access route.

The City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) Chief Elmeir Jade Apolinario on Wednesday said the continued use of the road will further damage the bridge approach and pose risks to motorists.

Apolinario suspected that the erosion and cracks in a portion of the bridge approach might have been due to premature use of the road facility which is still in its curing stage.

The temporary closure order was the joint decision of the CDRRMO, City Engineer’s Office, and the Department of Public Works and Highways, the agency tasked to implement the 35.49 kilometer project, following inspection of the area. (Sunnex)
