SOME 4,376 farmers from all over Lubao town received food packs and certified seeds through the distribution efforts organized by Mayor Esmeralda Pineda and Second District Board Member Mylyn Pineda-Cayabyab over the weekend.

The two officials visited farmers from all barangays of the town last Friday (November 26) and Saturday (November 27).

The farmers received their seeds under the Rice Competitiveness Enhancement Fund-Rice Farmers Financial Assistance (RCEF-RFFA) of the Department of Agriculture.

Mayor Pineda assured farmers that the town is already processing seeds for other farmers who have yet to receive their share.

The visits were also a chance for farmers and their leaders to discuss with the local officials their current concerns for the cropping season.

Lubao town is dominantly an agricultural area with farmers occupying one of the biggest sectors in the local community.

Most farmers have been imploring the help of local officials on the soaring prices of fertilizer.

Pineda assured them that her administration will be giving out fertilizers in the first week of December.

“I promise that every year, we will give you fertilizer to help reduce the costs of your farm inputs,” Pineda said.

She also gave farmers some financial assistance.

Meanwhile, Pineda-Cayabyab led the distribution of food packs to the farmers.

The assistance included rice, canned goods, hotdogs, vitamins and bags.

She said the assistance came from the Pineda family and has been a yearly commitment to assist farmers.
