THE World Medical Relief Inc. Tuesday, December 17, appointed businessman and philanthropist Irineo “Bong” G. Alvaro, Jr., as Ambassador of Health by Michigan-based Capampangan George V. Samson, president and chief executive officer of one of the leading global charitable institutions.

Alvaro, also chairman of Clark Investors and Locators Association, was sworn in by Samson in simple ceremonies at Midori Hotel at the Clark Freeport. It was witnessed by CILA President Frankie Villanueva, businessman Mark Mercado or Medal Consortium, Rev. Elias Talavera of United Methodist Church, Rev. Fr. Paul Silva, lawyer Felipe De Vera of Bureau of Customs, Dr. Carmelita Torno, lawyer Israel Forto, businessman Rudy Mallari, Shriner Nick Montes, and doctor Sheila Samson.

“I am both thrilled and honored to accept this appointment. This means having a new avenue to help our brethren who are in need of medical attention and relief,” Alvaro said.

“With help from Samson and the so-called Angels of Mercy (volunteers) who believe in charities and outreach missions, we hope to be able to reach out to more people.”

For his part, Samson said he “has seen the commitment of Alvaro to mission work” in various capacities as businessman and as a member of the community.

Prior to his appointment, Alvaro has been facilitating donations of medical and hospital equipment, and medicines from WMRI to various entities and individuals. He has also started the BBI Foundation that has regular Corporate Social Responsibility projects to needy communities.

The Alvaro family also conducts regular medical missions in Magalang, Pampanga Concepcion, Tarlac – where he traces his roots and small beginnings. The family has also accorded several full scholarship programs to deserving high school and college students. They have also donated classrooms in public schools.

Last week, both Alvaro and Samson were given recognition by the Concepcion town officials with citations from Mayor Andy Lacson and the Municipal Council.
