Angeles mayoralty bet vows to address traffic woes

Reynaldo G. Navales

MAYORALTY aspirant and opposition Councilor Carmelo “Pogi” Lazatin, Jr., on Sunday vowed to address Angeles City’s growing traffic dilemma through the establishment of an alternate route going through EPZA Resettlement to Pulung Maragul, to alleviate the heavy volume of vehicles plying the Angeles-Magalang Road.

During a visit to Barangay Pulung Cacutud on Sunday, February 24, Lazatin said one of the main traffic problem areas in the city is the Angeles-Magalang Road, which often becomes a bottleneck due to the number of vehicles going to Magalang and the North Luzon Expressway using it.

Lazatin pointed out that there has already been a proposed solution to this problem – the alternate route through EPZA – and, if he wins in his bid for Angeles City mayor, vowed to push through with the proposal with the help of his brother, First District Representative Carmelo “Jon” Lazatin, II.

Earlier, Lazatin also expressed his support for the implementation of Memorandum Circular No. 2007-01 issued by the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG), which bans tricycles and pedicabs along national highways.

However, Lazatin clarified that while there is no issue with the city government complying with the memo of the DILG, there should be clear implementing rules and regulations that should be discussed not only for the implementing officers but also to tricycle operators and drivers in the city so as to avoid different interpretations of the ordinance by the parties involved.
