CITY OF SAN FERNANDO - The lantern entry of Bureau of Fishery and Aquatic Resources (BFAR)-Central Luzon bagged the Most Creative Award in the recently-concluded Government Agencies Lantern Parade.

BFAR-Central Luzon’s lantern was made from sustainable and recycled materials such as bamboo, used nets, bottle caps, egg shells and decorated with the colors of the Southeast Asian Games.

In the center of the man-made Christmas star is a rotating flower in full bloom, surrounded by carved hands.

“This intricate and meticulous detail demonstrates the craftsmanship and passion of the lantern makers and symbolizes the bureau’s support to the advocacy of putting an end to violence against women and children as it enjoins everyone to pursue the common vision of a community where the women, regardless of age, are free from pain and suffering,” said BFAR-Central Luzon director Wilfredo Cruz.

The annual inter-agency lantern-making competition, now on its fifth year, aims to showcase artistry, craftsmanship and resourcefulness of government employees, anchored on an advocacy to end violence against women and children.
