EMB Regional Director Lormelyn Claudio, in a phone interview with Sun.Star Pampanga, said that the agency will look into all possible aspects that may have caused the fish kill in the Pampanga River.

“We will conduct a thorough investigation on the potential cause of the fish kill. We will be coordinating with the provincial and municipal environment offices concerned and other pertinent agencies such as the BFAR (Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources),” she said.

Claudio added that the agency will also verify the possible connection of the fermentation plant which environmental BakaJuan claimed to have discharged chemical waste into the river again which resulted to the fish kill.

“We will check on that possibility but cannot claim anything yet unless test results will be released. We do not also want attribute anything to anyone yet because many things be sources right now. It could be industrial, domestic or even natural, so that is what we will check in the investigation,” she said.

Claudio said that she will immediately deploy personnel to the field to check on the situation and address all the concerns, especially those of fishermen and residents in Masantol who are greatly affected by the incident.
