CITY OF SAN FERNANDO -- Personnel from the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) visited some 34 schools and local government units in Central Luzon in a massive campaign to drum up awareness on environmental issues and advocacies.

The DENR said that the environmental education lectures were actively participated in by more than 2,000 students and personnel from schools and local government units (LGU) in the seven provinces of the region

The campaign runs with the celebration of the Climate Change Consciousness Week with the theme "One planet, One Nation: Sustaining Green Actions for Safer Climate". The event underscores the importance of our collective actions and effort in solving the changing climate.

The national climate change consciousness week is observed every November 16 to 25 of each year under Presidential Proclamation No. 1667 of 2008, which aims to raise awareness on global warming through broad and intensive information and educational campaigns.

November is also declared as national clean air month through national vehicle inspection and maintenance consciousness under Presidential Proclamation No. 1109 of 1997, which aims to create awareness among motorists on the importance and benefits of vehicle maintenance.

On the other hand, Republic Act 9512 or the National Environmental Awareness and Education Act of 2008, declared the same month as “Environmental Awareness Month.”

This law called for the integration of environmental education in school curricula.
