A GRAB driver from Porac town has been reported as positive for coronavirus disease (Covid-19).

Governor Dennis Pineda on Friday, March 13, announced the first confirmed case of Covid-19 in Pampanga codenamed “PAMP1” who is being given treatment in a Metro Manila hospital, though he did not mention the town where the patient resided.

But Porac Mayor Jing Capil, in a post on the page of Ing Bayung Porac, said the town has a Covid-19 carrier being treated in Manila. Capil called for a meeting of local officials Saturday morning to impose stricter sanitation measures in the town. The immediate family of the patient was reported to be in home quarantine.

As per the information of his immediate family, the patient is a driver of the ride-haling platform Grab plying the Clark Freeport and Pampanga routes.

He had no history of foreign travel, according to his wife.

The man, who is 33 years old, is said to have a history of tuberculosis and hypertension.

His wife sought the help of the Pampanga Provincial Government after Governor Pineda urged the reporting of incidents to him.

Governor Pineda also put two close contacts of PAMP1 for monitoring. The Provincial Epidemiological Surveillance Unit has been tracing the contacts of PAMP1.

He urged the public to maintain good sanitary hygiene practices to avoid contracting Covid-19.
