Foreigners warned not to join political rallies

THE Bureau of Immigration (BI) has warned foreign nationals in the country against taking part in political rallies and demonstrations.

BI Commissioner Jaime Morente issued the reminder following the inauguration of President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos, Jr on Thursday.

“Foreigners should steer clear from political engagements so as to avoid being charged with violating immigration laws here in the country,” said Morente.

BI policies prohibit foreigners from "joining, supporting, contributing, or involving themselves in whatever manner in any rally, assembly, or gathering" while in the Philippines.

According to Morente, they issued the warning to prevent a repeat of past incidents where they had to deport and blacklist foreigners who participated in partisan political activities.

“Foreigners who were caught joining political demonstrations in the past have shown disrespect to our country’s authorities,” Morente said.

“Foreigners are prohibited from engaging in partisan political activities. Those who will be caught will be deported and blacklisted,” he added.
